Our History

Our club was founded in 1968. We have had a number of note-worthy runners in our club over the years, and we truly are a club for all runners.

Summit Athletic Running Club Activities

Volunteering - We are always looking for club members to assist with the races we manage. The race day activities generally include helping with registration, guiding runners along the course, helping with water stops and assisting with the finish line. Volunteering is a great way to meet other club members is can be a fun family event.

Monthly Meetings - Each month we meet for a group run followed by our meeting. A variety of speakers covering all aspects of fitness, health, and of course running, are featured at our meetings. Presenters have included former Olympians, motivational speakers and medical experts.

Club Runs - We have several groups that meet both during the week and on the weekends. The groups range from casual to competitive. Why run alone?

Scholarship Program

Each year we provide scholarships for college-bound seniors who have been active in running. Club members are eligible to nominate their family members.

Networking

Our members offer a wide variety of personal and professional skills to each other. The friendships that are bonded within our club are often life-long.

Club Races

We continue to host outstanding races throughout the year.

February - Frostbite 5K Prediction Run.  No watches allowed!  The winner is the runner who comes closest to their predicted time.

March - Shamrock 15K & 5K.  The 15K is one of the toughest courses around.  It goes down into the valley and then back up!  Very hilly and a true test of your early year fitness!  The 5K is a rolling course.

June - Jim Klett Memorial Races.  A great race in the valley with a 10K, 5K and 2 races for the kids, a 3/4 mile and a 1 1/2 mile race.  Come bring the entire family!

August - Bill Heideman Memorial Cross Country Series.  3 racing nights usually in August.  Races are run on Thursday nights at the Goodyear Heights Cross Country Course.  Come and test your abilities against some of the top area youth runners.

August/September - Buckeye Half Marathon and 5K.  The half is a fast, 2 loop course that many runners use a a final prep race before the fall marathon season.

December - Great New Years Eve 5K Race - Close out the year the right way with a fantastic 5K race.

Staying in Touch

In addition to our monthly meetings and club runs, we provide a monthly newsletter that highlights the latest news and events for our club. Club members provide interesting and often funny articles regarding their running experiences. Another way to stay in touch is to visit our club web site at www.summitathletic.com, which is updated on a weekly basis.
